Jake: And why do you think so? I think that it is a way to buy cheaper things.
Mike: Because millions of people save money for this day, and when it arrives they go crazy and start shopping without thinking.
Jake: I don’t think so. In my opinion it’s a way for people to get the things that they always wanted and it’s their opportunity to get them.
Mike: You must be crazy! The only thing that it does is encouraging consumerism! Shops elevate the price of their products the earlier weeks and then they put again their normal price again, but people don’t think about that.
Jake: Well it’s your opinion, I respect it. Well I have to go, the shop is going to open and I have to be the first there.
Mike: Oh my god, you haven't learned anything!
Jake: I will buy you a present, bye!!!

SELECTIVTY WRITINGS

Are love-locks romantic or a menace? 

Love-locks is ARE a very famous way for couples to symbolize their love when they make a trip to a romantic or special place for them.  But is this act romantic or is it really bad for the heritage of the cities?

On the one hand, love-locks can symbolize the eternal love by closing it with your name and your partner’s name. Putting love-locks in bridges is an activity that a lot of couples do and for many of them it’s fine. They throw the key to the river and the lock will stay there forever, like maybe their love.

On the other hand, this activity is bad for the heritage of the cities. While people put love locks on bridges the thing that they do is to put more weight on bridges and it can reach a point when the bridge can fall or get damaged.

In conclusion, love-locks have to be removed from bridges because they can damage their heritage o, but maybe it’s a good idea to assign an exclusive location to put love-locks and make couples happy and leave a part of their love on a special place for them.

“Learning English my way”

When I was 6 years old I started learning English at school. First we started with some typical words like hello, goodbye… The methode was that the teacher talked to saying these words and explaining the meaning in Spanish.

After I arrived at the secondary school the level started to be higher and the methodes to be different. We started to do excercises, listenings, speakings, readings… After all that, I achieved a good level without going to an academy out of school.

Last year I went on a trip to London and there I improved my english a lot by listening and talking to people that was their language. Before the trip I decided that I wanted to improve more and I started to watch series in English and listen and sing a lot of English songs.

Finally, after a lot of years I reached the point where  today I’m today and I go for more having courses and doing exams to achieve certificates.

Why do actors and athletes earn so much money? How do they earn milions of pounds if they haven't studied to be a teacher for example? In my opinion they should win less money.

First of all, I think that they generate a lot of money, so consequently they win a lot too, but I strongly believe that it is too much. It is too much because there are a lot of professions, like doctors or firemen, that save lives and earn much less money than actors or athletes.
Secondly, for kids since many years ago their dreams are these professions and this can be bad for guys that fight for their dreams and drop out of school to focus on this. Only a few achieve this jobs and the rest can finish without work. Personally, I think that they shouls study and fight for dreams at the same time, earning money is fine but it doesn't have to be an obsession.

In conclusion, I can tell that actors and athletes have to be well paid, but not too much like nowadays. There are other jobs that deserve to be rewarded more than theirs.

TITANIC

TITANIC

Titanic is a film directed by James Cameron and the main carachters are Jack and Rose. It tells the story of a young couple that goes in a cruise, that finishes in a dramatic moment. The film is set in the Atlantic ocean.

In 1912 a new ship, Titanic, starts a voyage from Southampton to New York city. At the start all went perfectly but the night of 14-15 april a very big incident changed all. The ship crashed, in the North Atlantic, into an iceberg. This made Titanic start to get water inside and it slowly sank, making people fall in the water. Some people saved their lives, but many of them died in the cold water, like Jack.
Titanc is based in a true story and it stars Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet.

In conclusion, Titanic is a thriling story, that keeps fans on the edge as plot unfolds, while we watch it, we don't know what can happen next because the plot makes many twists and turns. All of this makes Titanic be one of the most popular films in history.

BARCELONA

BARCELONA

Barcelona is located in Spain and is the capital of Catalonia. It is visited by a lot of tourists during all the year and if you are one you must be careful with tourist traps!

Firstly, in Barcelona there are a lot of places to visit and if you want to see it all, what you have to do is to stay in the city some days.

In this big city there are a lot of monuments like the statue of Cristobal Colon that is breathtaking. There are fabulous constructions like Sagrada Familia too. Don't forget to visit it if you want to learn about the culture of Barcelona.

Secondly, if you prefer a different kind of visit there are many options too. If you are a fashion lover you have to visit the shopping centers of the city. There are a lot but my favourite one is "La Maquinista".

And if your passion is football don't forget to visit the biggest stadium in Europe. Camp Nou is in the center of Barcelona and it is gorgeous.

In conclusion, I recommend to visit the city because you will always have things to do and visit. The only problem is that staying in a hotel maybe is a nit expensive but it worths!

SHOULD EXAMS DISAPPEAR FROM SCHOOLS?

Why nowadays do exams in schools still exsist? In my opinion this is because it's an easy method for teachers to mark all the students equally, but I think that it isn't a good way to do it and I agree with the statment "exams have to disappear from schools".

First of all, students have different qualities from each other and if you evalue, a boy that is very good at Maths making him do a Catalan exam assessing him negatively he consequently thinks that he is not good enough for that, which is not true.

Secondly, as I see it the actual teaching method is out of date and from my point of view there are new methods that have a more practical part with new technologies.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that education has to look foward and change things that for many years ago haven't been good for learning, obviusly is a hard proces but students will learn more and enjoy themselves it!

WRITING

Why, Harry, the war soldier, has been quiet since the world war ended? He didn't brag about his experiences and in my opinion he did the best thing that he can.

First of all, life at war is very hard, but to be there in the middle of all with your life exposed to death. I think it's the hardest thing that can happen to a person.

Secondly, it's good to tell people what the reality is and they can see what really happened, but for Harry, talking about his experiences can make him remember bad moments of his life.

In conclusion, we don't need to hear Harry experiences to open our eyes and see that war can't be justifed for any reason. There are better ways to solve problems without hurting innocent people.

London is located in the British Islands and is the capital of England. It's one of the biggest European cities and is visited by millions of tourists during all the year.

In London you can visit a lot of tourist traps, and you can choose between many options. You can go to the British museum or to the National History museum. But I recommend you to visit the Big Ben and the London Eye; they are breathtaking. And in London don't forget to eat fish and chips. They are fabulous.

In my opinion London is the best city in Europe to visit, because you can go there cheaoly with a budget airline and you will enjoy yourself a lot there. So I recommend this trip to all of you

OPINION ESSAY

SHOULD WE BECOME VEGETARIANS?

Can we survive without eating meat for the rest of our lives? Yes, we can but our bodies need the nutrients that meat has to be energetic and healthy. I believe that meat is very important for a balanced diet.

First of all, meatgives us vitamin B12 that is essential for our brain and the rest of foods can't give it to us. Meat gives us proteins that we need to get energy on our day; plants give us protein but not much, less. There are a lot of kinds of animals. As a consequence, we can choose between different types of meat.

Secondly, human bodies need to eat plants and meat because we need nutrients of both. As i see it, meat industry creates milions of job places and if people stop consuming meat, unemployment will increase a lot.

In conclusion, people have been eating meat since prehistory and this is one reason why humanity still exsists, so I think that it is essential for a balanced and varied diet.

The center of London is composed by a lot of buildings and monuments like Big Ben or Buckingham Palace. London is a very cultural city and there you can find a lot of museums like the British Museum or the Natural History museum.
If you want to buy typical things of London you should go to its markets, like Candem market. There, you can find whatever you want.
And if your passion is football, in the city you can find 5 stadiums of different teams. Don't miss visiting Wembley or Stamford Bridge, they are amazing.

It's worth to visit this city because you can enjoy all the places and learn English talking to other people and it doesn't have an expensive cost. Don't forget to eat fish and chips there and take a photo with the popular red phone booths.

AMANCIO ORTEGA GRANT

Mr. Ortega,

My name is Raúl Pasadas Espejo and i'm 17 years old. Now i'm doing my last year of high school and when i finish i would want to study in USA. I think that i deserve that grant because i'm from a humble family and i've worked a lot these years to have a chance like this one for change my life and have a better future.

I'm a funny, sociable, ambitious and athletic boy that enjoys the little things of my life like spend time with my family and friends. I live in a little town in Spain called Santa Margarida de Montbui, close to Barcelona, and i live with my mom, my dad and my sister, we have a dog and a cat. My favourite hobbies are sports, specially football, and music, i can't spend a whole day without listen to music is a very important part of my life it helps me to relax and concentrate.

My main qualities are that i'm very responsable, i'm smart and i work very hard for the things that i want, like this grant. I have a good level of english, but i want this grant for improve it and for a lot of more things like met an other country and people, train me for my future... This is a little explication about me and my life, thanks for give this chance for people it is a very good initiative and the chosen ones would be so proud and happy to have it and will never forget the experience.

DRONES

A drone is a robot that can fly and film with a camera that carries on. It's activated by a person with a controller that has a screen to watch what the drones sees.
On the one hand, drones can be dangerous if the person that controls it doesn't have too much experience with it. Year after year there are some drones accidents and this can be a reason. Another reason is that drone pilots sometimes can violate the privacy of the people, filming without their permision.
On the other hand, people that pilot drones for personal use can do good things for society, using the camera they maybe can see a murder or a crime.They can call the police and try to stop the crime.
In my opinion, the personal use of drones mustn't be banned, only it has to be banned for people that hasn't much experience and the goverment can put a license for drones, like cars, and with this we will have has less problems.

THE LAST TIME I WENT TO A CONCERT

Last month I went to Maka's concert in Barcelona. I were waiting for this event a lot of time ago, I love this singer, he's one of my favourite artists in Spain. The concert was the 7th of April in the "sala Apolo". It started at 8:30 pm and I wnt there with my sister and her friend.

The concert started and finished with the same song the first song of Maka's new album "DVENDE". He were there singing for two hours and he sang a lot of songs. I was singing all the time and I finished the concert without voice but it was worth it because I enjoyed like a kid!

I had a fantastic day with my sister and I liked all the songs, he is one of the best and I fell in love even more with Maka's music! It was one of the better days in my life!
